MIKE BURGESS
My last 16 years summarised for you.
Where to begin? I came into the music industry through putting on club nights and running parties. I'd always made electronic music, but not that seriously until I was in my early-mid 20s. I was fortunate to have a product people wanted and at the right time and DJ bookings and music opportunities came a plenty for HeavyFeet. We remixed numerous UK Top 40 artists, released music on leading labels incl. Black Butter Records, which also led to a guest residency on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

I realised that much of what I'd learned as a DIY-minded creative could be transferred and after 5-6 years as the artist, I transitioned my energy into working with other artists (both signed and upcoming) as a product/music manager whilst also expanding my interests in radio (working with BBC 6 Music as an assistant producer) and as an educator (heading up the Music Business BA Hons degree at BIMM Manchester), which led on to the birth of Sound with Mike.

As well as advising creatives all over the world (whose releases have collectively racked up hundreds of millions... probably by now, billions of streams), I also work with a number of carefully chosen organisations (including the eco-cosmetics firm, Lush) and have recently designed and led a music industry training programme for the award-winning Reform Radio (which subsequently won us a Youth Music Award in 2021 for Outstanding Project). I have been acknowledged as a leading practitioner in 'Sound Advice' (Jones & Heyman, Shoreditch Press), on ITV, BBC Newsbeat and in The Guardian.

I am based between Manchester and London (UK). Outside of my work within the music industry, I have a strong interest in human rights and sustainability.
